What a good way to end the season for the Fliers with another win.
Batting first Overstone got off to a solid start from Alex 7 and Harry 3 - Harry was out a couple of times bowled highlighting the importance of a sound defence to a good ball. Jack and Maddie were next up and were both outstanding. Jack had his best innings of the year scoring 11 including a lovely 4 and Maddie scored 8. Their calling and running was exceptional and it set us up well at the halfway stage.
Reuban and Max were next in and despite both getting out once each, moved the scoreboard on well with 12 and 10 respectively. Reuban too hit a lovely 4.
Our last pair was debutant Jesse supported by Aidan. Jesse did well scoring 9 and Aidan 5 both out once and Aidan did a very good job of looking after Jesse with some excellent calling and running. Our score of 288 for 6 looked very competitive .
In reply, after 2 balls Horton had scored 5 including a lovely 4 but we need not have worried as Alex bowled fast and straight getting 2 wickets in his next 3 balls. Everyone bowled well and there were further wickets for Max and Maddie along with a couple of fantastic direct hit run outs from Max.
At the end Horton were on 288 -7 against Overstone 323-6 a 35 run victory.
The team have really grown during the year and will finish mid table when all the results are in. That said if we played ONs now whom we lost to on the opening day, things might be different now as everyone has improved so much and the decision to have an additional team has, I believe, been vindicated.
Thanks to Matt Stevens who has done a great job on match days and to everyone who has helped scoring / doing registers or sanitising!
A strange season being so short but lots of promise for 2021.
