Looking splendid in their pink shirts the Ladies batted first on a sunny and hot Sunday afternoon.
Kitty Crouch 12 and Maddie Stevens 5, opened and did really well against a strong opening Brixworth pair. Each were out once but showed they were more than capable against some very good bowling. Sofia and Meg were next in and held their own against some good bowling. Whilst we lost 3 wickets we kept some momentum. Isabelle Phipps top scored on the day with an excellent 16 well supported by Jo Carlier 8 including a nice pull shot for 4. Jennie and Lynsey were our final pair and against some good bowling did well not to lose many wickets and gave us a very good score of 300.
Considering 5 of our team had NEVER played a hard ball game before this was a great team effort.
When the Brixworth ladies batted it was clear that they had much more experience as they showed with good defensive technique and excellent running between the wickets. All of our bowlers did really well and our extras were 20 runs lower than Brixworth. Well done to Jennie Parnell who took the first ever wicket for our Ladies. I actually thought that as a team we bowled better but the downside of bowling well is that some balls are easier to hit and the Brixworth Ladies showed their class putting away deliveries well.
At the end we lost by 11 runs although in fairness the Brixworth team were the better of the sides. That said, I couldn’t be more proud of the Overstone Ladies. They fielded well, bowled great and against a very good side came up just short. We have an excellent foundation to build on and it would be great to think we could put a side in the league next year.

Brilliant effort everyone
